Automated FTP transfer of data from remote laptop computers.

Sellers of Siemens IC products include Siemens' own sales force, plus salespeople from Siemens' distributors. One goal of all these salespeople is to identify customers who have new products on the drawing board that can use Siemens IC components. When a salesperson becomes aware of a product that could make use of Siemens components, his or her effort is to persuade the customer to choose the Siemens component, instead of a competitor's, for the new product.

When a salesperson first identifies a potential product which could use Siemens components, he/she can register the customer and the product in the Siemens DesignWin System. If the customer finally selects the Siemens component for the commercial version of the product, this is called a "Design Win". The salesperson responsible will be eligible for certain commissions as a result.

Eagle designed and implemented Siemens DesignWin System. Versions of the system are used on laptops by Siemens' and distributors' salespeople. Periodically these salespeople upload and download (via FTP) new information between their laptops and a central "pool".

The system produces comprehensive reports documenting worldwide sales activity and DesignWin registrations.

Siemens salespeople use this system each month to forecast their sales by product and customer over the next 12 months. All forecast information is automatically uploaded through regional and area managers, up to the central MIS computer.

The information is used by MIS to produce sales management reports. Then actual sales figures for the preceding month, along with new customer and product information, are downloaded to area and region managers and to each sales person.

The system produces a number of reports aimed at both the individual salesperson and sales managers.

This system helps manage the sales activities of Wells Fargo salespersons. It includes a component which is installed on laptop computers used by salespeople in the field, and a central component which runs on the Bank's LAN, communicating with an Oracle database.

The system manages contact information, call planning and tracking, and sales results. Information is regularly uploaded and downloaded between the laptop computers and the Bank's central database.
